Digital Vessel brings together three things marine doesn't yet have in one place: onboard hardware designed for the certification process, distributed intelligence that processes data on board, and a signed, verifiable record of onboard data. Why now
Boats have got more complicated far faster than their data has got any easier to read. Hybrid propulsion, battery banks and connected systems generate information that nobody joins up. At the same time, boatbuilders are looking for a way to stay close to their clients after handover, and marine insurance still has no shared format for verifiable onboard data. It's a space nobody holds today, and someone will.
What Digital Vessel is building
A hardware and software system distributed white-label: boatbuilders and fleet operators can offer it to their own clients under their own brand. The model combines hardware supply at each installation with recurring services for the life of the boat. Over time, the signed data collected on board becomes an asset with value beyond the boat itself: for servicing, for resale, for risk assessment.
Where we are
The system is fitted to three real boats and has been logging data underway since summer 2026, with a live data pipeline and digital signing built in. The first two commercial installations have been under way since July 2026. The technology has reached TRL 4–5 on a real boat. The project is developed in joint research with BioNIRS, a prospective spin-off of the University of Palermo. The software platform is in development and the dedicated hardware is in design. Progress is stated with the same precision used with boatbuilders: separating what works today from what's on the roadmap is part of how the company operates.
